A Career Pivot That Changed Everything

Nicholas didn’t set out to become a social worker. He set out to become an accountant. But somewhere between balance sheets and spreadsheets, he realized numbers weren’t his passion — people are.

After stepping away from his accounting studies and putting down the CPA exam prep, Nicholas joined AmeriCorps and headed to Austin, TX, where he worked on ending homelessness through supportive housing programs. It was a turning point.

“I loved the pace, the community, the mission — and I loved hearing people’s stories,” he says. Every participant came with a unique background, and helping them make real progress in their lives gave Nicholas something accounting never had: a sense of purpose.

He returned to Massachusetts to pursue his MSW, graduating in 2024 with a clear picture of the kind of clinician he wanted to be — fast-paced, evidence-based, zero-barrier, and committed to quality care.

Walking Alongside People in Transition

As a continuing care clinician in Eliot’s Behavioral Health division, Nicholas works with individuals for up to 18 months as they transition out of urgent care and back into community life. It’s a critical window — a stretch of time when the right support can make all the difference between lasting stability and a return to crisis.

His work centers on skills development and helping people build the tools they need to navigate their lives independently. He brings a research-informed lens to everything he does and is drawn to the training and supervisory side of the work, sharing what he’s learning and helping others grow in the process.

Driven by Curiosity and Community

What struck Nicholas most when he entered the field — first in Austin, now in Massachusetts — was the passion of the people around him. The colleagues who show up every day not because it’s easy, but because the mission matters.

He found that same energy at Eliot. And he’s not done learning yet.
