Spotlighting Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2025: The Time is Now

Eating Disorders Awareness Week (EDAW), observed February 24 – March 2, 2025, is a crucial time to spotlight the realities of eating disorders and the importance of accessible, comprehensive care. Eating disorders have the second-highest mortality rate among mental illnesses, with one person dying every 52 minutes. Yet, stigma and a lack of awareness often stand in the way of early intervention and recovery.

Research shows that between 55% and 97% of individuals with eating disorders also experience at least one other psychiatric disorder, such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, or substance use challenges. This high rate of co-occurrence underscores the need for integrated treatment approaches that address the whole person.

At Eliot Community Human Services, we provide transdiagnostic care that supports individuals living with mental and behavioral health conditions and co-occurring eating disorders. Our person-centered approach ensures comprehensive support that meets people where they are in their journey toward wellness.

This year’s EDAW theme, “The Time is Now,” encourages us to take action—by raising awareness, sharing resources, and fostering empathy for those affected by eating disorders. Together, we can shine a light on hope, understanding, and recovery.
